Making Predictions

At the end of the story, Meursault says that he would like a large group of spectators at his execution. Do you think that anyone will care enough to witness his death, or what might he do if there is a large crowd?

I believe that other people did truly care enough about Meursault to come witness his death. Meursault had wished for a large crowd to come, but I feel that he at least had his few close friends present. Meursault had built relationships with others such as Raymond, Marie, and Salamano. Raymond turned to him for help when he was having a difficult time in life. Marie was in love with Meursault and frequently visited him in jail. Salamano saw him as a friend and felt comforted with his presence after Salamano lost his dog. These people all liked Meursault and came to his defense in the murder trial. Although Meursault never showed his emotions towards others and appeared as a cold character, his friends still cared about him. I feel that they would all be present at the execution to mourn for the death of Meursault.

Avast! I agree with charmander there. I think that Meursault's friends did, in fact, care enough about him that they would be present at his execution. As for the general public, the reporters did mention that they "blew up" his case, so there may in fact be some people who hated Meursault enough to come and witness his execution. (Perhaps maybe even the Arab girlfriend? What a scandalous meeting that would be...g'yar)
