Traits of Meursault

How would you describe Meursault? Thoughout the novel I keep coming back to the same adjective, "detached". But is he truely detached from society and its status quo? As we continue to analyze Meursault's character I can not help but wonder if Meursault wants to be more emotional in his life, but has difficulty expressing it.

Mersault is very hedonistic. Throughout the entire first half of he book he was only concerned with satisfying his own needs. He also has very lackluster social skills. He even states at one point that his physiccal needs often get in the way of his emotions. After he becomes jailed and realizes what his actions have caused, he can do nothing more but accept it. I think he's actually quite a terrible person.
